SWANA is proud to present this year’s keynote speaker, Steve Apfelbaum of Applied Ecological Services.

For more than 30 years, Apfelbaum has applied ecological science principles to “redevelop” intensely disrupted lands into valuable ecological resources for communities. He has brought ecological science and revitalization to mines, Superfund sites, brownfields and landfills.

His presentation, “How Your Landfill Can be an Ecological Resource for Your Community,” will discuss how the use of ecological science has saved landfill operations and reduced costs. He also will give examples of how ecological restoration can be used to make money for landfills and their communities. These economic benefits come with the big picture of creating an ecological legacy and recreational resource for the community and future generations to enjoy.
