SWANA Announces 2013 Professional Achievement Award Winners
Honorees to be recognized at WASTECON® 2013
Silver Spring, Md. — The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Professional Achievement Awards.
SWANA’s Professional Achievement Awards Program recognizes individuals who, through the course of their careers, have made significant contributions to the solid waste management profession. Each year, individuals are nominated by Chapters, Members, and staff for several awards. The Professional Achievement Award, the Robert L. Lawrence Distinguished Service Award, and the Life Member Award are among highest honors in the solid waste industry.
This year, three individuals who have proven to be champions of the solid waste industry will be recognized at SWANA’s annual conference, WASTECON®, in Long Beach, California on Tuesday, September 17, 2013.
The Professional Achievement Award recognizes SWANA members for valuable and distinguished contributions to the association, their employing organization, and the general public. This year’s honoree, Harvey Levitt, is a SWANA public sector member with more than 25 years of dedicated service in the solid waste management industry.
The Robert L. Lawrence Distinguished Service Award recognizes a SWANA member or nonmember who, by his or her service to the Municipal Solid Waste Management field, has demonstrated meritorious consideration. This year’s honoree, Harvey Gershman, has been active in the solid waste management field for more than 40 years as an advisor to government and industry, providing assistance to solid waste service/system regulators, managers, and owners.
The Life Member Award is granted to only one individual in any given year, recognizing their commitment to SWANA and its chapters, and superior service to his or her employer. This year’s honoree, John W. Lackie, P. Eng., joined SWANA in 1986 and has since forth been a dedicated member of the SWANA Ontario Chapter, and to SWANA, serving on the SWANA International Board as the International Chapter Director for Ontario, and as the Canadian Representative for two, three-year terms.
