Saturday, December 31, 1988
SCS Engineers, PC (SCS) is pleased to announce that Mark P.
Hudgins has joined its Charlotte office as a Project Manager. From that office,
he will oversee the development and implementation of civil/environmental and
biotechnology programs related to the remediation and post-closure care of
municipal solid waste landfills. Mr. Hudgins has over 23 years of experience on
landfill design, hydrogeological studies, permitting, and waste cleanups, as
well as an extensive background in bioremediation research, all in accordance
with regulations under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
Most recently, Mr. Hudgins was the Program Manager for a
landfill remediation firm located in Aiken, SC, as well as Regional Manager for
a bioscience research and applications firm located in the technology corridor
of Princeton, New Jersey. Over the last
decade, Mr. Hudgins has directed, facilitated, and served as the Project
Director and Lead Engineer on numerous landfill remediation projects that
applied biological approaches at contaminated sites throughout the US and
overseas. Moreover, he has been responsible for the formulation of new waste
sustainability concepts for US and EU landfills, including new landfill
operation models, carbon offset strategies, and comprehensive planning.
“SCS Engineers offer its clients the best possible
environmental solution by being proactive on solid waste issues. After years of
success in the field, new aerobic and anaerobic processes can now be applied on
a commercial scale to address challenging environmental concerns, while at the
same time offering financially attractive incentives to municipalities, such as
sustainable waste management and greenhouse reduction credits,” said Mr.
Hudgins, who is presently working on landfill remediation projects in China and
Canada, as well as a MSW anaerobic digester (AD) study in central South
Carolina.
Mr. Hudgins has earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in
Civil Engineering from the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. In addition,
he has authored numerous articles, presented findings, and has spoken at over a
dozen international conferences (e.g., in Russia, Japan, China, Sweden, and
Australia) on new landfill concepts based on biotechnology. He holds two US
patents on aerobic landfill remediation and is a member of the Solid Waste
Association of North America (SWANA), and the American Society of Civil
Engineers (ASCE). Also, he has collaborated with colleagues in the development
of new landfill carbon-reduction methodologies under the United Nations (UNFCC)
EU Emissions Trading Scheme.
