The MSW Management Master Series, a three-part webinar on contracting, by Constance Hornig, got off to a great start last week with Part 1, Negotiating with Haulers. Participants were treated to Constance’s rare gift of leapfrogging the obvious hurdles and getting down to concerns that are all too often overlooked in negotiations…the “what happens if” issues such as strikes or situations approaching force majeure territory that can tear the heart out of what may have seemed to have been a wonderful contract. More than the particular issues involved, the real message to attendees was the importance of holding face-to-face discussions among the parties to tie up loose ends and achieve equitable distributions of risk/reward challenges and benefits.
The series continues on June 28 with Part 2: Contracting With Municipalities; Balancing Service and Cost to Win and Keep Contracts, followed by Part 3: Insuring Against Risks; Beyond the Garden Variety Slip-and-Fall on August 1. If you haven’t signed up for the series as yet, please visit http://foresteruniversity.net/masterseries-msw.html to do so. Not only will you get to participate in the two remaining modules, but you’ll be able to access the Part 1 recording at your leisure as well.
I hope to see you there.
