I spend so much time in Las Vegas for various conferences, expos, and other work-related events, that I’m close to becoming a Nevada resident with all the rights, privileges, and tax advantages thereto pertaining. So next week’s sojourn to the stomping grounds of some of the most colorful people in American history (I speak of course of the Paleo-Indians whose indecipherable petroglyphs set the standard for today’s advertising mantra “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”) will move me ever closer to the six-month residency requirement that would relieve California’s tax rolls of another contributor to its grand vision.
As for WasteExpo itself, I’m looking forward to seeing what new collection, processing, recycling, conversion, and trash-mashing equipment the manufacturers will lay before us this year. Just as much, I’m eager to see what the technology folks will trot out, because I happen to think that integrating their wares is crucial in generating the increased efficiencies needed to meet the fiscal and productivity challenges looming ever larger if we are to meet the public’s sustainability expectations.
While visions of me engaging in Twittering and Tweeting and Texting (Tango-cubed) activities will no doubt evoke hoots of derision from friends and critics alike, I intend to incorporate social media into my WasteExpo experience this year.
