Someone asked
me the other day if I have any special plans for the summer. Three things
sprang to my mind: a wedding of a family friend at the beach in June, a vacation
week with family in August, and WASTECON 2009 in September in Long Beach. I
answered the person by telling them about the wedding and the vacation. I did
not mention a conference on trash because I knew he would not have
understood. But I am looking forward to all three events, each for their
own reasons.I look
forward to WASTECON every year because I know I will be going on a productive
professional discovery adventure. The tours, the equipment and trade show,
and the technical sessions are ways for me to discover new things and to get
answers to my questions. I get to chose from a menu of technical sessions,
meetings with the Applied Research groups, or technical divisions to learn from
experts. And I get to set my own pace and choose my own path through the
conference. I know I must sound like a kid going to a big theme park and
having a great adventure, but I do feel a tingle of excitement about WASTECON
even though it is four months away.
I am going to
WASTECON and I will carry my Blackberry, bring some work from the office, check
my voicemail, and keep my receipts and honor all my jurisdictions needs and
wants. And I will have a good time on a professional adventure of
discovery.
