ASL Recycling launches 49 GREENspot e-waste drop-off locations

Here's an e-waste recycling effort that's gathering momentum.

ASL Recycling is now rolling out 49 ASL GREENetwork http://www.aslrecycling.com/greenspots.php drop-off locations. This is phase 2 of a 2-phase initiative.

The goal of ASL GREENetwork is to unite key stakeholders that can make e-waste recycling a public success story: collectors, retailers, manufacturers & local governments.

Response to last month's launch was excellent: many collectors signed up to be a part of the GREENetwork.

The larger goal is to clone this program to other states by defining best practices and consulting with partners in other states to leverage California's experience in this sector.

The person behind the idea, Carey Levine of ASL Recycling , has been working hard for the past year to bring her GREENetwork idea to life. She has coordinated the efforts of dozens of solid waste collectors, city halls and recyclers to make it free and convenient for consumers to offload their old electronics. This is exactly what California's SB20 bill had in mind.

Her vision is for the GREENetwork to extend state-wide (right now, it's just Northern California). Looking ahead, she believes it could be the model for e-waste recycling efforts in other states by making GREENetwork synonymous with smart e-waste recycling. The public outreach starts now, with the first step being today's launch of the GREENspot drop-off locations.
